Kite Festival

kite festival is a festival that is happened on either 14 th or 15 th annually on the occasion of Tamil Thai Pongal day at Valvettithurai Uthayasuriyan playground, Jaffna. This kite festival is held at the same time as Thai Pongal day every year. Thousands of people are gathered to watch number of gain kites which very rare in the rest of the country. It’s a most expectable competition in the region as its offered valuable prices to the winners. The colors, size & shapes are more fascinated with number of stories.

Ship festival (Nagar Kovil)

The ship festival is known as Kappal Thiruviza by local, also a special festival in the northern region. Its developed with a spiritual concept that deal with a Hindu female god named Ambal. The spiritual activities are happened entire day with the participation of local people and artists.

Indra Viza

Indra viza was developed by a part of story from a famous Tamil book called Silappathikaram was articulated in 3 rd century (A.D). The story is connected with a place in South India and the celebration is thought to be a part of the festival in Tamil Nadu India.

Sivarathri

Maha sivarathri is an important festival that is celebrated between the month of February and March annually. Though there are number of celebrations by Hindus the sivarathri is the only one is being celebrated in night with spiritual activities like Prayers, Fasting and meditation. Thirukeetheshwaram,Nakuleshwaram,Thirukkoneshwaram, Munneshwaram,Kokkaddisolai Thanthonreshwaram and Ponnambalavaneshwaram are the famous temples for the celebration.

Madu festival

Madu festival is a one of the festival that us being celebrated by the people of Sri Lanka beyond the religion. Madu shrine is located in Mannar district of Northern Sri Lanka with 400 years’ history. The festival has been a symbol of unity beyond ethnicity.

Vattapalai Kannaki Amman Kovil

Situated in Mullaitivu, Vattappalai Kannakki Amman Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kannakki Amma. According to Karna legend, Kannaki from Madurai arrived in Sri Lanka and rested in ten different places. The tenth place she visited was named Paththam-Palai (Paththam – tenth, Palai – residence). Over time the name evolved to Vattappalai.
